Bathroom Cleaning takes less time when you organize it wisely. Gather all of your cleaning supplies in advance. Have a bucket or cart handy so that you can transport them to each room you clean. This saves time going back and forth to retrieve supplies.
Basic Cleaning Supplies You Should Have
• Protective Gloves
• Sponge
• Cloths
• Simple Cleaning Solutions – this includes glass cleaner and general surface cleaners
For bathroom cleaning, you should also have a squeegee and a toilet brush. For the living room area, you may need upholstery cleaner and floor cleaner that is appropriate for the room’s flooring.
Since you need different cleaners for some rooms, cleaning room by room is most efficient. If you want to get the hardest job out of the way first, choose the bathroom. Here are some bathroom cleaning tips.
Cleaning the Bathroom
Bathroom cleaning calls for extra safety measures due to potential exposure to germs and hazardous cleaning products. Keep a door or window open. Wear protective gloves and pour cleaning products carefully to avoid splashes.
1. Remove trash receptacles, laundry baskets and other movable items from the room.
2. Put toilet cleaner in the toilet bowl. Many cleaners need time to sit in the bowl awhile to clean and sanitize the surface.
3. Clean the shower and bath, next. If soap scum is present, apply soap scum cleaner to those areas to let it sit. Like toilet cleaner, these cleaners need some time to break down the deposits. While that is happening, you can move on to the vanity.
4. Lay a towel on the floor and move all items off the vanity and onto the towel. Scrub the vanity bowl and fixtures with a sponge and the appropriate cleaner. If you have a marble, granite or natural stone vanity, these require special pH neutral cleaners. Always read the product label for precautions.
5. After you have cleaned and rinsed the vanity, clean the mirror. Use a lint-free towel to dry the mirror and then the vanity. When you are finished, replace the items you removed from the vanity earlier.
6. Revisit the shower and bath and scrub them with a wet sponge. Rinse the surfaces thoroughly and check to make sure all soap scum is gone. Occasionally, you may need to reapply soap scum remover.
7. Scrub the toilet bowl with the toilet brush. Use a fresh sponge to wipe down the outer side of the toilet seat and bowl.
8. If you have tiled walls, clean them with tile cleaner. Rinse them afterward with a clean, wet sponge. Follow with a squeegee to prevent streaks.
9. Sweep and mop the floor last. This prevents it from becoming re-soiled from your movements and from cleaning other features in the bathroom.
Extra Bathroom Cleaning Tips
If you are using a product containing bleach, never use it with another cleaning product. Bleach will react with anything containing ammonia. This includes sponges and other cleaning tools that have been saturated with ammonia or products containing ammonia.
